It has always been the case that professional system traders have taken nearly all of the profits made in the commodity markets.

There are a number of reasons for this, which are mainly historical and to do with resources and opportunity.

Opportunities in terms of knowledge and computer power are now more widely available and private individuals can now trade on equal terms with the professional traders if they take the trouble to learn how to go about it.

So, whereas it is still true that the professional traders scoop most of the profits, this is beginning to change.

Really it is the systems traders that make all of the money. They are the ones who delegate all of their routine day to day trading procedures to their computers. They themselves concentrate on developing and improving their techniques and evaluating new ideas.

Professional traders normally enjoy a very good lifestyle, though they tend to keep themselves very much to themselves. Even so, some of them are now publishing their methods and software of professional calibre is also obtainable.

Anyone contemplating becoming a commodity trader would be well advised to study the methods of the successful traders before risking his money in the markets.
