Divergence Scans

 




 

The first thing one must do to create any scan is to define the specific criteria
that will find what you want to scan for.
 

If divergence is defined to be
price moving in a direction contrary to the direction that an indicator is moving,
then time frame and indicator parameters become crucial.

The issue of scanning for divergences is very well described
in this April 6th StockCharts.com News Letter.

I strongly recommend that anyone interested in these scans
read that news letter.

Divergence Scan # 1. Over the Last Five Days

Price increased by at least given 2.5 %
while MACD has decreased by at least 8 % - Advanced User Interface

[type = stock] and [close > 5 days ago close * 1.025] and
[[[macd line(12,26,9) - 5 days ago macd line(12,26,9)] / AbsVal(5 days ago macd line(12,26,9) ] < -0.08 ]

Divergence Scan # 2. Over the Last Five Days

Price higher than the highest close during the previous five days
and Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) currently lower than
the lowest reading during the same period

[type = stock] and [close > yesterday's max(5,close)] and
[CMF(20) < yesterday's min(5,CMF(20))]

Divergence Scan # 3. Over the Last Ten Days

Price higher than previous ten days maximum,
and RSI lower than previous ten days mazimum. - Advanced User Interface

[daily max(10,daily high) > 10 days ago daily max(20,daily high)] and
[daily max(10,daily RSI(14)) < 10 days ago daily max(20,daily RSI(14))]
